It's easy to say you want to remodel your home. You probably spend hours on Houzz and Pinterest thinking, "Why can't I have that kitchen!? The truth of the matter is, where do you start and more importantly where do you stop your reno? Budget:
Aiming for a moving target isn't fun for you or your builder. What do you realistically want to spend on your home remodel? It's great to have a number in the back of your head of what your bottom line is. Now that you have that number, realize that every home remodel show on HGTV has taught you that $10,000 can get you everything under the sun. Realistic? Not a chance. There are so many moving factors that go into a reno. Know that your budget and checklist might not lineup and be willing to either A) Increase your budget or B) decrease the amount of work done on your home. Ideas: Knowing what you want is half the battle. Websites like Houzz and Pinterest make it extremely easy for you and your designer to communicate via photos on what your overall goal is for your home project. It’s often hard to describe in explicit detail what your dream home looks like. Use online photos and point out what gravitates you towards a style/overall look. Once you’ve picked out your selections stick with them. Your choices on the first go around in making selections is often what you truly want to begin with. Timeline: How long are you willing to be inconvenienced while your kitchen and three bathrooms are being renovated? Are you willing to stay at your home during the renovation process? Consider the timeline when you chose to renovate your home. Weighing out the pros and cons of renovating in stages or completely gutting your home all in one jump. Do you pull off band aids slowly or rip them off quickly to reveal your newly remodeled home?
